not dead yet.

falsehoods

have nearly destroyed me.
us.
countless times.

lies
I told others
lies
I told myself
lies
others told me

all of which were believed
by everyone

until they weren’t.

It’s when they were
no longer
credible,
viable,
living beings,

they finally
started to
shrivel
and
shrink.

some a little
some a lot

Still, they all cling violently to life,
writhing in what one hopes are
death throes
in the cool light of truth.

but
Still
Not
Dead.

Do they ever stop breathing,
or do we just develop
a comfortable symbiosis
that keeps feeding both of us?

Trouble With Lies

I wish you could just tell the truth
I hear your voice getting nearer
It brings back the crimes of your youth
Avoid your eyes in the mirror
The trouble with lies
Is that you start to forget where the real man hides

The trouble with lies
When you tell them you still got to sell them
With the look in your eyes
Oh, that’s the trouble with lies
As far as I’m concerned
With the lessons I’ve learned
I’m determined to try and survive
Without lies

That stands out to me. One does hope that those are death throes, but usually it’s not for long.
