Sonnet I – I chose to walk

I chose to walk in someone else’s shoes
The words “I chose” I choose with great intent
For almost every choice there’s win and lose
It doesn’t make the time all poorly spent
I look upon my life in many ways,
Each facet makes the gem of value more
The shoes, while fitting poorly, won me praise,
But winning praise became a daily chore
Some people choose to walk with lighter feet,
In flip-flops, sandals, or their soles laid bare
Began to find my shoes of choice less fleet
And pain once carried lonely I now share
The footwear that I here begin to shed
Has made me lighter, flight I choose instead
