high above us
the eye of pigmented silica
emits diffuse light
to the outside world
from electric torches
rather than burning hearts
but only at night.
by day,
the light of the world
shines in on empty space,
dimly illuminating
dark wood, stone,
and a lone sexton
flipping the switch
to save electricity.
either way,
no one sees in or out.
rose-colored glass
will see to that.
