In the darkest of rooms
A dim light captivates
While out the window looms
Sun which life generates
Both are sorely needed
Neither’s win conceded
An emblem of our age
Against all dark we rage
And never see the fight is wrong
Dark and light near all along.
Living with them both – we’re freed
Days in darkness we all need.

<grin> I calls ’em as I sees ’em, Ben.
Profound wisdoms often seem quite simple. The meter of how profound is, “yes, but how difficult is it to put this simple insight into practice, and does this wisdom help me get there?”
Finding a new way to observe insights like, “there is balance in acknowledging the beauty of both darkness and light,” or “if we do not learn to love the darkness as much as the light, we do not really learn to love at all,” is a useful reminder of the value of developing a simple but difficult practice, and is always at least a little profound.
I deeply appreciate it when anyone helps me see the wisdom in a difficult practice. And, so, I appreciate the wisdom of this poem.

<smile> This is especially true when I’m trying to extricate myself from a “long dark teatime of the soul,” which I am. It’s good to be reminded that there is a purpose and a beauty in that darkness, and value in having gone through the experience, if only to learn, yet again, that there is growth and insight in the lessons of darkness.
