leaving hope behind

branches reach
across the chasm
of flat, liquid
nothingness

for
somethingness
a change on the horizon
a break from the monotony

leaves cling to the branch
for a time
for a season
in hope

once green
now golden
soon gone
dreams unfulfilled

but purpose complete
for now
perhaps next year
will bring more growth

more stretching
another season of
hopeful
reaching.
