lighten up and splash a little

Sometimes
we dance on the sand
and wayward waves
tickle our toes
with cooling licks.

Some of us
hate being wet,
preferring
warm
dry
sugary sand
scritching
between our toes

We could walk on the side
of the neighboring cliff
like goats on a mountaintop high,
Ever certain
of freedom
from waves.

But also devoid of sand.

And damn,

It’s a lot of work.

And certainly no place to dance.

Then I remember,
the only reason I have sand
on which to dance at all

Is because waves were there
first.

So I return to the beach,
lighten up,
and splash a little.

  1. There is definitely something about the beach and the rumbling ocean that always makes me think about the miracle of existence. Perhaps there’s some dim genetic memory of some scaly ancestor leaving it for the land, and part of me want to return home? 😉

In the meantime, I’ll just dance in the sand. 🙂
