Sonnet XLIII – Unsparing

ABAB CDCD EFEF GG

I’ve spared you all from sonnets for a time
My soul had not the wherewithal to write
But now it seems it’s time again to rhyme
My “Barding” days again are looking bright
I know ’tis news that’s bad for some of you
The form confounds although I know not why
Forget the source and just enjoy the view
You’ll feel the iambs pulsing by and by
da-DAH, da-DAH, da-DAH is how it goes
With basic quatrain rhyming ’til the end
And then you get a couplet at the close
(It comes forthwith, enjoy the climax, friend):
Whatever form that functions is the thing
That proffers wisdom, be it balm or sting.
