Fish-Eye Blind

Perhaps
it’s the fish-eye lens,

But under the
dark
rippled
water

I imagine

fish

blindly
(blithely?)
swimming;

the smallest
eaten by the larger
small ones

and those
by larger ones yet.

On and on,
up the food chain…

The largest
occasionally
unfortunate enough
to swallow
bogus bait
dropped to the deep
from boats above
by pretender predators.

Every.
Single.
One.

Vulnerable.

  2. But for those
    Who live to say
    I am the one
    Who got away

I rarely fish the ocean. But I have often been the predator of pretense in the rivers draining into this sound. I think I will be thinking a bit more about the fish in the sound when I drive back down to the city tomorrow.
