by thy help I come

I pause;
I wait.

choirmaster shepherd,
tune my heart.

selah

I have no need.

None.

when I thirst,
no danger of desiccation.
my body has never known
that kind of sere wanting

never ceasing

the River flows
before me
to me
through me

restful waters
keep me alive
keep us alive

the rivulet which
whets my appetite
wets my parched palate
here and now

once a Spring
erupting
fresh and pure

then
geology
gravity
the falls

changed things

the watercourse
meandered
wandered
deviated circuitously

at times
went
nearly
subterranean

through gorges
dark and deep
rock faces
sheer
unscalable

Even when I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no danger because you are with me.

it’s helpful to remember
– water sculpts stone –
rivers give birth to canyons

I was with the water
the water was with me

finally bursting forth
into light

come,
thou Fount

refresh.
