breakwater

the breakwater

defends
protects
insulates

a secure shelter
in time of storm

fierce
angry
relentless

and yet

and yet

we continue to navigate
our tiny boats
from calm waters
to roiling seas and rolling surges
of aquatic chaos

the place beyond the barrier
holds both sustenance
and potential destruction

stay in the harbor
safe
but we’ll starve
beyond the breakwater
is risk

but life.

Pic and a Word Challenge

  1. Sweet. I love the way you’ve used the photograph to build the words, and how you’ve managed to subtly maintain the theme, Transition, between safe harbour and the twin edges of risk and reward.

    1. I’m a rule follower. :). For the poem’s sake, I wanted the water in the pic to be rougher on the outside of the breakwater, but it still worked. I love the little boat chugging out. To get fish…. or get destroyed… I almost called it “the perfect storm”

      1. <grin> I’ll try to be more prescient about the photographs I post. 😉

It definitely works. With or without the supporting imagery.
