reaching

offspring,
my scions,
munchkins,
the “fam”

progeny
feeling the pressure

I was
pricked by the poison
to produce pure perfection

won’t push those wares
on souls under my care

my love’s far too deep
to make them believe
that anything short of
all right
is
all wrong

report card – all A’s
one B+
what the hell?
the focus was always the same

then Jesus and God?
please, don’t get me started.
it’s a wonder I still
foster faith

offspring,
my scions,
munchkins,
the “fam”

they constantly reach
and require affirmation
don’t ever shatter that trust

don’t make them undo
what was done to you, too
life’s meant to be lived
not reprogrammed.

offspring,
my scions,
munchkins,
the “fam”

call them whatever you will

just don’t call them
not
good
enough.

  1. The expectation of excellence from anyone is the end of their eccentricity.

Beautiful usage of literary devices that fit so well.

    1. Thank you! I asked my daughter for a prompt this morning, and she said “Write about us!” This wasn’t where I thought it would go…

      1. Asking for excellence, specially from kids and not in a careful way, is more damaging than anything else. If only more parents realised the severity of this action and embraced uniqueness.
