Vesuvius

it came upon us hot and fast
some ran to life, we chose to hide
mistake of infamy – we died
had we but known we’d breathe our last
great breath and end up cinder-cast
we might have lived more yesterday
or tried some new thing, some new way
now it’s too late, we’re gone to time
romanticized demise sublime
will your volcano dormant stay?
