time for some “fresh kicks”?
consider
this pair of running shoes;
for sale,
never worn.

actually – not true;
a lie – like so many others.
well worn, and not for sale.
Free.
take them.
they no longer fit
our feet;
past purposes
fail to force us
forward.
Free.
like the Invisible Man
in the picture.
only – visible.
palpable
perceivable
tangible
tactual
just no longer in the frame.
absent from their picture
of who we ought to be.
like the drifting wood
which found its place on this beach
we, too, have drifted
elsewhere.
drifting —
far too passive.
we tried letting wind and water
take us where it would
and got nowhere.
or many somewheres
we didn’t want to be.
gnarly roots caught the laces
one too many times
and dragged us along.
Here’s some Good News.
the shoes came off.
and then we jumped.
a leap of faith.
a leap from faith?
realizing what we no longer need,
we shed what is shod
until
all that is left
are remnants.
The Last Run.
leaving the world behind;
running with the sands of time,
barefoot and brave.
feeling it all;
sand, stones and courage!
the soles of tired feet,
digging thirsty toes
into cool wetness
as water
washes
all
away
