To know thyself above all else is wise,
but wisdom wields a pain that burns like fire.
Each piece you learn will open wide your eyes;
those pieces replace peace and fuel the ire.
Be ignorant – ’tis blissful – true as well,
but not an option for a one as you.
You can’t unlearn what life will choose to tell.
Pay no attention? Opt to have no clue?
You were made for hellish introspection;
your predilections pressed before your birth.
Can’t un-know knowns – rejecting each detection;
must find another way to capture mirth.
Can’t solve this one, although God knows I’ve tried;
yet somehow tears that fell have all but dried.
Yeah, sometimes it hurts to be so self-aware.
