rain, rain, go away?

My rain has gone and sun returns again
I know that some have prayed for rain all day
But cloudless skies persist after “Amen”
My rain has gone and sun returns again
Although what’s past has left some in a fen
It seems what comes we oft would wish away
My rain has gone and sun returns again
I know that some have prayed for rain all day

My morning’s skies of blue soon turned to gray
The moment’s respite gone in sheets of rain
While elsewhere blue and bluer day to day
My morning’s skies of blue soon turned to gray
My SoCal cousins gladly trade away
Their searing parch for water down my drain
My morning’s skies of blue soon turned to gray
The moment’s respite gone in sheets of rain

They want the rain; I need it now to stop
Perhaps for just a time we’ll trade a space?
But that won’t fix the problem at the top
They want the rain; I need it now to stop
Though arid, dank, I know we can’t just swap
The normal flow of nature can’t keep pace
They want the rain; I need it now to stop
Perhaps for just a time we’ll trade a space?

  1. I love how you wrote this in 3 rondeau stanzas. Relatable, too. 😅

    1. I wanted each stanza to be a “progression”. It ended up feeling a bit repetitive and monotonous to me, but I guess that sort of fits the subject matter… 🤷🏼‍♂️

  2. Hope SoCal cousins know we are thinking about them and pray for rain for the West.
