in a previous light

in the layers of life
it’s darkest in the middle
right where the eye wants to fall.

but if I choose
to look above
the charcoal horizon
and float
into lighter
and
varied
grays,

I know…

though mountains
be
not
moved,

skies will eventually clear,

and all else
will coat itself
in colours

not noticed
in a previous light.
