The prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “if.” Start your post with the word “If.” Enjoy!
If…
If I had written this yesterday, on Stream of Consciousness SATURDAY, I’d be struggling today, this Sunday morning, to grab hold of a topic, and you’d all be grumbling about a sonnet.
If…
If I’d chosen to be a lawyer, like I’d originally intended, instead of a teacher, would I be a recruitment manager today?
If…
If I’d been stronger, that time I was judged for being honest and living my life, would I have stayed in a toxic work environment?
If…
If I’d known and accepted being gay when I was 16, 26, 36… where would I be now? Who would I be now?
What WOULDN’T be happening now? WHO wouldn’t be happening now?
I’m not one to say “everything happens for a reason”, but I do think we have an opportunity to grow and become something, someone, different with every “thing” that happens.
And so I do.
And so I am.
And so “if” is a word I banish as I look backwards.
All that matters is today and the “ifs” I face
which will create my tomorrow.
If…
If I have the courage to choose my deep knowing,
which is Them working in me,
nudging
guiding
directing
If…
If I can do this, “ifs” of yesterday will
never
matter
again.

Here are the rules:
1. Your post must be stream of consciousness writing, meaning no editing (typos can be fixed), and minimal planning on what you’re going to write.
2. Your post can be as long or as short as you want it to be. One sentence – one thousand words. Fact, fiction, poetry – it doesn’t matter. Just let the words carry you along until you’re ready to stop.
