The Hour is Late

The hour is late and moonless darkness falls
I marvel how I’ve swallowed squandered time
And watch another day between the walls

I willed the maddened running turn to crawls
At first it seemed the slowing dawned sublime
The hour is late and moonless darkness falls

The yoke pulled back, our nose too high, it stalls
Tomorrow, best that we eschew the climb
And watch another day between the walls

No longer trust what’s seen with optic balls
I’m doubting more when heart is out of rhyme
The hour is late and moonless darkness falls

Do I have choice to take what future calls?
Or am I puppet in a pantomime?
And watch another day between the walls?

Unopened doors in neverending halls
I know I have the choice to alter clime
The hour is late and moonless darkness falls
I watch another day between the walls

  1. I like the use of “optic balls” for “eyes.” Creative way to keep that rhyme going. 🙂

    1. Those ended up being MUCH harder rhymes than I expected.
