#NaPoWriMo 2022 – April 8
Today’s prompt comes to us from this list of “all-time favorite writing prompts.” It asks you to name your alter-ego, and then describe him/her in detail. Then write in your alter-ego’s voice. Maybe your alter-ego is a streetwise detective, or a superhero, or a very small goldfinch. Whoever or whatever your alternate self may be, I hope this prompt lets you stretch both your writing skills and your self-knowledge.
I’m in here.
Little Man.
Scared to death
When perfection eludes.
Eight years young
And God, did I try,
(literally, God, I tried)
To fix the whole world
The whole fucking world.
Clue phone ringing – it can’t be done.
Of course it can’t be done.
Try telling that to a third grader
Busy being “the man of the house”
Or at least the “man for his mother”.
With over half a century
Beneath this busy body’s belt
You’d expect
8
to be
Long.
Gone.
But I’m not.
I’m in here.
Little Man.
Scared to death
When perfection eludes.
