in the layers of life
it’s darkest in the middle
right where the eye wants to fall.
but if I choose
to look above
the charcoal horizon
and float
into lighter
and
varied
grays,
I know…
though mountains
be
not
moved,
skies will eventually clear,
and all else
will coat itself
in colours
not noticed
in a previous light.
