June 30

thirty days hath September,
April, June and November.
this June I will remember
as I watch the last day’s ember

I made the final deadline;
’twas self-imposed, of course
If I didn’t make the date, I fear
at least a year’s remorse, that’s clear

it doesn’t matter anyway
I made it, that’s the point
and now July can come to me,
my soul no more disjoint, it’s free

I haven’t felt the arrows yet
they told me to expect.
too busy in these days of strife
to say I should reject my life?

it doesn’t matter anyhow
just let the arrows fly
even tipped in poison – flaming
peaceful now I’d die, no blaming.

I’ve even let God off the hook
I know that seems quite wrong
but blame I placed and placed it square
my anger simmered long, unfair

It feels so good to “let it go”
some Disney songs have truth
I made it so, so hard, so long
stole from myself my youth, so wrong

but now there’s no more looking back
the stream’s under the bridge
full forward now, a life to give
I simply crest the ridge – and live

I made the final deadline,
’twas self-imposed of course
If I didn’t make the date, I fear
at least a year’s remorse, that’s clear

it doesn’t matter anyway
I made it, that’s the point
and now July can come to me,
my soul no more disjoint, it’s free
