Why seek to steer what moves beyond control?

Why seek to steer what moves beyond control?
Our agency alone enough to rule.
We try to hold it still, then watch it roll…

We try to run when calls an evening stroll
And head cross-country – tank devoid of fuel
Why seek to steer what moves beyond control?

The sense of leaking bottom in my bowl
It comes, it goes, so much I feel a fool
We try to hold it still, then watch it roll…

The back and forth begins to take its toll
Too hot, too cold, not warm, not cool
Why seek to steer what moves beyond control?

We find some peace – our meditative goal
Then pause to look upon the precious jewel
We try to hold it still, then watch it roll…

The merits of mere stasis we extol
As if the middle ground’s a magic tool
Why seek to steer what moves beyond control?
We try to hold it still, then watch it roll…
