Sonnet XLI – Christmastide

It’s “Boxing Day” which means the season’s o’er?
In ‘Murica, again, we have it wrong.
In other lands, this day they bless the poor,
Saint Stephen’s Feast – from Wenceslas’ song.
Twelve Days of Christmas – yesterday’s the first;
It ends with Christ revealed to magi three.
The days from here to there for building thirst
For what the “coming” brings humanity.
It’s now en vogue to spurn the destitute,
And miss the truth of incarnation’s gift:
“Receive so we can give away our loot;
Not only “stuff” but also Love to Lift.”
I pray we rediscover giving soon;
That what’s received might be another’s boon.
